When Ezra arrived in Jerusalem, he saw the people busy with their daily lives. They had homes, families, and work—but many had forgotten God’s teachings. Ezra knew what he had to do. He gathered the people together in a big open place. Men, women, and children came from all around. They were curious. “What will Ezra say?” they wondered. Ezra stood up on a wooden platform so everyone could see him. He held the Book of God’s Law in his hands. As he opened the book, something amazing happened. All the people stood up. They showed respect for God’s Word. Ezra began to read. His voice was clear and strong. He read slowly so everyone could understand. Around him, helpers explained the meaning to the people.
