Long ago, in the land of Israel, there lived a prophet named Elijah. Elijah loved God and obeyed Him. But many people in Israel had forgotten about the true God. Instead, they began worshipping false gods that could not see, hear, or help them. This made Elijah very sad. One day, Elijah went to King Ahab and said boldly, “Let us find out who the true God really is.” So a great challenge was planned on Mount Carmel. All the people gathered there, along with the prophets of a false god named Baal. Elijah stood before everyone and said, “How long will you follow two different ways? If the Lord is God, follow Him! But if Baal is god, then follow him.” The people were silent. Elijah then explained the challenge. “Bring two bulls,” he said. “The prophets of Baal may choose one, and I will choose the other. We will place them on altars but will not light the fire.” Then Elijah said, “Call on your god, and I will call on the Lord. The God who answers with fire—He is the true God.” The people agreed. The prophets of Baal went first. From morning until noon, they shouted, “O Baal, answer us!” But nothing happened. They danced, cried out louder, and even jumped around the altar. Still, there was no answer. Elijah watched and said, “Maybe your god is sleeping! Call louder!” The prophets shouted even more, but no fire came. Now it was Elijah’s turn. He rebuilt the altar of the Lord using twelve stones. Then he placed the wood and the sacrifice on it. But Elijah did something surprising. He asked for water to be poured over the altar—not once, but three times! Water soaked the wood, the sacrifice, and even filled a trench around the altar. Everyone wondered, How can fire burn something so wet? Then Elijah stepped forward and prayed: “O Lord, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, let it be known today that You are the true God. Answer me, so these people will know that You are Lord.” Suddenly—WHOOSH! 🔥 Fire came down from heaven! It burned the sacrifice, the wood, the stones, and even dried up all the water. The people were amazed! They fell to the ground and cried, “The Lord—He is God! The Lord—He is God!” That day, the people remembered the truth. God is real. God is powerful. And God always listens to those who trust Him. 💛 What We Can Learn: Trust the one true God Stand strong in your faith God hears our prayers God shows His power in amazing ways Elijah was not afraid to stand for what was right.
