Rahab and the Brave Spies – Book 12

Long ago, after many years of traveling, God’s people were finally close to the Promised Land. Their new leader, Joshua, wanted to learn more about the great city of Jericho before they entered it.
So, one quiet night, Joshua chose two brave men.
“Go and explore the land,” he said softly. “Be careful, and trust in God.”
The two spies nodded and set out under the cover of darkness. The stars twinkled above them as they walked silently toward the city of Jericho.
Jericho was surrounded by tall, strong walls. Guards watched the gates, and the city was always busy. The spies slipped inside, trying not to be seen.
Soon, they found a house near the city wall. It belonged to a woman named Rahab.
Rahab welcomed them kindly. But she had already heard something very important.
“I know about your God,” Rahab said in a quiet voice. “We have heard how He helped your people cross the sea and win great battles. Everyone in this city is afraid.”
The spies listened carefully.
Rahab continued, “I believe your God is the one true God. He rules over heaven and earth.”
The spies were surprised. Rahab was not one of their people, yet she had faith in God!
But suddenly, there was a loud knock at the door.
“Open up!” the king’s soldiers shouted. “We heard spies have come here!”
Rahab quickly thought of a plan. She hid the two spies safely on her roof under bundles of flax.
Then she went to the door and spoke calmly to the soldiers.
“Yes, some men came,” she said, “but they left before the city gates were closed. If you hurry, you might catch them!”
The soldiers rushed away into the night, searching for the spies.
Rahab went back to the roof and whispered, “The soldiers are gone. You are safe for now.”
She looked at them with hope in her eyes.
“Please promise me something,” Rahab said. “When your people come, remember me and my family. Show us kindness.”
The spies agreed.
“If you tie a red rope in your window,” they told her, “we will know this is your house. You and your family will be safe.”
Rahab nodded and held the red rope tightly.
That night, she helped the spies escape by lowering them down the city wall with a rope from her window.
“Go to the hills,” she told them, “and hide there for three days. Then return safely.”
The spies thanked her and disappeared into the darkness.
After three days, they returned to Joshua and told him everything.
“God has surely given us the land,” they said. “Even the people there are afraid. And there is a woman named Rahab who trusts in God.”
Joshua listened and smiled. He knew that God was guiding them every step of the way.
And Rahab? She kept her promise.
She tied the red rope in her window and trusted in God.
When the time came, God protected Rahab and her family—because of her courage, kindness, and faith.
