The House on the Rock – Book 8

One bright morning, two men walked across the countryside looking for a place to build their homes.
The sun was shining warmly, birds were singing in the trees, and the gentle wind made the tall grass dance.
The first man was wise and patient. He wanted his house to last for many years. So he looked carefully at the ground beneath his feet.
“This home must be strong,” he said. “I must build it the right way.”
He climbed hills, crossed little streams, and searched for the best place. Finally, he found a large, solid rock rising above the ground.
The wise man smiled happily.
“This is the perfect place,” he said.
The rock was hard and strong. Building there would take extra work, but the wise man did not mind.
Day after day, he carried heavy stones and wooden beams. Sometimes the hot sun made him tired. Sometimes the work was slow and difficult.
But he kept working patiently.
As he built, people passing by stopped to watch.
“Why are you working so hard?” one man asked.
“Because a strong house needs a strong foundation,” the wise builder answered kindly.
Little by little, the beautiful house began to rise upon the rock.
Its walls were strong. Its roof was steady. Its foundation was firm.
Not far away, another man was also building a house.
This man wanted to finish quickly.
He walked beside the river and saw soft sand near the water.
“This place is easy!” he laughed. “I can build my house here much faster.”
The ground was smooth, and digging was simple. He quickly placed his house upon the sand.
Soon his house looked tall and impressive.
The foolish builder smiled proudly.
“Look how quickly I finished!” he said.
Some people admired the house because it looked beautiful from the outside.
But the foolish man never stopped to think about what was underneath.
Days passed peacefully.
Children played nearby. Birds flew across the sky. The two houses stood quietly under the warm sunshine.
Then one evening, dark clouds began to gather.
The sky slowly turned gray.
The wind started to blow harder and harder.
The wise builder looked toward the clouds carefully.
“A storm is coming,” he said.
Soon thunder rumbled across the sky.
Rain began to fall in heavy drops.
The wind whistled loudly through the trees.
The rivers began to rise higher and higher.
The storm crashed against the house on the rock.
Rain pounded the roof.
Strong winds pushed against the walls.
Huge waves splashed against the stone foundation.
But the house did not move.
It stood strong and firm upon the rock.
Inside, the wise builder stayed calm because he trusted the strong foundation beneath him.
Then the storm reached the house on the sand.
The rain soaked the soft ground.
Water rushed around the weak foundation.
The sand beneath the house began to slide away.
Crack!
The walls began to shake.
Crash!
Parts of the roof broke apart.
The wind roared loudly as the entire house collapsed into the sand.
Everything the foolish builder had worked for was washed away by the storm.
When morning came, the storm finally ended.
The sun rose once again over the land.
The house on the rock still stood strong and safe.
But the house on the sand was completely gone.
People looked at the two homes and understood the important difference.
Jesus told this story to teach people a very special lesson.
He explained that people who hear God’s words and obey them are like the wise builder.
Their lives become strong and steady, just like the house built on the rock.
But people who ignore God’s truth are like the foolish builder who built on sand.
When troubles come, they do not have a strong foundation to help them stand.
One boy named Timothy listened carefully as Jesus’ story was read to him.
Timothy thought about the storm, the strong rock, and the house that stood firm.
“I want my life to be strong like that house,” Timothy said softly.
So each day, Timothy chose to pray, obey God, and show kindness to others.
Sometimes it was not easy.
But Timothy remembered the wise builder and the strong rock.
Little by little, his faith grew stronger.
And just like the house built on the rock, Timothy learned how to stand firm through every storm.
