The Shadow That Went Backward – Book 3

Long ago, in the city of Jerusalem, there lived a good king named Hezekiah. He loved God and tried to lead his people in the right way. He prayed often and trusted God with all his heart.
But one day, something very sad happened.
King Hezekiah became very sick.
He felt weak and tired. The palace was quiet, and everyone was worried. Even the king’s servants did not know what to do. Hezekiah lay in his bed, wondering if he would ever get better.
One day, the prophet Isaiah came to visit him.
Isaiah was a man who listened to God and shared His messages with people. When he entered the room, his face was serious.
“King Hezekiah,” Isaiah said gently, “God has sent me to tell you to get your house in order, because you will not recover from this illness.”
Hearing this made Hezekiah very sad. He turned his face toward the wall and began to pray.
“Dear God,” he whispered, “please remember how I have tried to follow You with all my heart. Please help me.”
Tears rolled down his face as he prayed.
God heard Hezekiah’s prayer.
Before Isaiah had even left the palace courtyard, God spoke to him again.
“Go back to Hezekiah,” God said, “and tell him I have heard his prayer and seen his tears. I will heal him. In three days, he will go to My temple. I will also add fifteen years to his life.”
Isaiah quickly returned to the king’s room.
“King Hezekiah,” he said with a smile, “God has heard your prayer. You will get better!”
Hezekiah’s eyes filled with hope. “That is wonderful news!” he said. “But how will I know that this will really happen?”
Isaiah nodded. “God will give you a sign,” he said. “Would you like the shadow on the sundial to move forward or backward?”
Now, a sundial was a special clock that used the sun’s shadow to tell time. The shadow always moved forward as the day went on.
Hezekiah thought for a moment.
“It is easy for the shadow to move forward,” he said. “But it is impossible for it to go backward. Let the shadow go back ten steps!”
Isaiah prayed to God.
And then, something amazing happened.
Outside, in the bright sunlight, the shadow on the sundial began to move… backward!
One step… two steps… three steps…
All the way back ten steps!
The people watched in amazement. They could hardly believe their eyes. Time itself seemed to turn around!
King Hezekiah smiled with joy. He knew that only God could do something so powerful.
Just as God had promised, Hezekiah began to feel better. Day by day, his strength returned. Soon, he was able to walk, talk, and even go to the temple to thank God.
Hezekiah never forgot what God had done for him.
He learned that God hears our prayers, sees our tears, and has power over everything—even time itself.
