The Persistent Friend at Midnight – Book 10

In a quiet village, when the sun went down, everything became still.
The lamps were dim. The doors were closed. And everyone was fast asleep.
Everyone… except one man.
His name was Eli.
And Eli had a problem.
Late that night, a traveler arrived at his door.
“Peace be with you,” said the traveler. “I have come a long way. May I rest here tonight?”
Eli welcomed him kindly. “Of course! Come in, come in!”
But as Eli went to prepare food, his face fell.
“Oh no…” he whispered.
There was no bread left.
Not even a small piece.
Eli thought for a moment. Then he had an idea.
“My friend lives just down the road,” he said. “He will help!”
So Eli stepped out into the dark night and hurried down the quiet street.
Soon, he reached his friend’s house.
He knocked.
Knock… knock… knock…
Nothing.
He knocked again.
Knock! Knock! Knock!
From inside, a sleepy voice called out, “Who is there?”
“It’s me, Eli!” he said. “Please lend me three loaves of bread. A guest has come, and I have nothing to give him!”
There was a long pause.
Then the voice replied, “Eli… it is midnight! The door is locked. My children are in bed. I cannot get up now.”
Eli stood there for a moment.
Then he knocked again.
Knock! Knock! Knock!
“Please!” Eli called. “I really need your help!”
Inside the house, everything was quiet again.
But Eli did not leave.
He knocked again.
And again.
And again.
Knock! Knock! Knock!
Finally, the door opened.
His friend stood there, tired but smiling a little.
“Eli,” he said, “you certainly don’t give up!”
He handed him the bread.
“Here—take what you need.”
Eli’s face lit up with joy.
“Thank you! Thank you so much!”
He hurried back home, where his guest was waiting.
Soon, there was food on the table, and the traveler smiled with gratitude.
That night, Eli learned something important.
If you truly need something… don’t give up.
Keep asking.
Keep trusting.
And keep believing.
Because sometimes, the answer comes to those who keep knocking.
“Keep asking. Keep seeking. Keep knocking.” – Luke 11:9
