One day, Jesus had been teaching a large crowd near the Sea of Galilee. Many people came to listen to Him because His words were full of love and wisdom. Jesus also healed the sick and helped those who were in trouble. As the day came to an end, Jesus told His disciples to get into their boat and go across the lake to the other side. Jesus wanted to spend some time alone to pray. So the disciples climbed into the boat and began to sail across the water. The sky was dark, and the wind started to blow. Soon the waves became bigger and bigger. The boat rocked from side to side. The disciples were afraid. They tried to row harder, but the wind was strong, and the storm would not stop. Water splashed into the boat, and the night felt very long. Far away on the shore, Jesus was praying on a mountain. He knew His friends were in trouble. Late at night, while the wind was still blowing, something amazing happened. Jesus began to walk on the water toward the boat. The disciples looked out into the dark and saw someone coming across the waves. They became very frightened. “It’s a ghost!” they cried. But Jesus spoke to them right away. “Do not be afraid,” He said. “It is I. Be brave.” When Peter heard Jesus’ voice, he felt hope in his heart. Peter said, “Lord, if it is really You, tell me to come to You on the water.” Jesus answered, “Come.” Peter carefully stepped out of the boat. At first, he walked on the water toward Jesus. The wind was still blowing, and the waves were still high, but Peter kept his eyes on Jesus. Then Peter looked at the storm around him. He saw the big waves and felt the strong wind. He became afraid. Suddenly, Peter began to sink. He cried out, “Lord, save me!” Right away, Jesus reached out His hand and caught Peter. “You have little faith,” Jesus said kindly. “Why did you doubt?” Jesus and Peter climbed into the boat together. As soon as Jesus stepped into the boat, the wind stopped. The waves became calm, and the sea was quiet again. The disciples were amazed. They knew that only someone with great power could walk on water and calm a storm. They said, “Truly, You are the Son of God.” That night, the disciples learned an important lesson. When they trusted Jesus, they were not afraid. Even in the middle of the storm, Jesus was with them. And just like the disciples, we can trust Jesus too. When life feels scary or hard, we can remember that Jesus is always near, ready to help us, guide us, and keep us safe.
