Long ago, after Moses had led God’s people for many years, a brave and faithful man named Joshua became their new leader. Joshua loved God and listened carefully to everything God said. One day, Joshua stood with the Israelites near a great city called Jericho. Jericho had tall, strong walls all around it. The walls were so high and thick that no one could break through them. Joshua wondered, “How will we ever enter this city?” That night, God spoke to Joshua and gave him a very special plan. “Joshua,” God said kindly, “do not be afraid. I have given Jericho into your hands. But you must trust Me and follow My instructions.” Joshua listened carefully. God told him, “For six days, have the priests carry trumpets and walk around the city once each day. The people must walk quietly. On the seventh day, walk around the city seven times. Then blow the trumpets loudly, and everyone should shout!” Joshua was surprised. This was not a normal battle plan. But he trusted God. The next morning, Joshua gathered the people and explained God’s plan. The priests lifted the Ark of the Covenant and blew their trumpets softly as they walked around Jericho. The people walked behind them in silence. Not a single voice was heard. Around and around the city they walked — once each day for six days. The people of Jericho watched from the tall walls and laughed. “They aren’t even fighting!” they said. But Joshua and the Israelites kept trusting God. On the seventh day, Joshua woke everyone up early. “Today is the day!” he said with a smile. They walked around the city once… twice… three times… four times… five times… six times… and finally, seven times! Then Joshua lifted his hand and called out, “Now! Shout to the Lord!” The priests blew their trumpets as loud as they could. The people shouted with all their strength! And suddenly — BOOM! CRASH! The great walls of Jericho began to shake and tumble down. Stones fell to the ground, and the tall walls completely collapsed! God had done exactly what He promised. The Israelites walked straight into the city. Jericho was theirs, not because of strong swords, but because of strong faith. Joshua smiled and thanked God. “Lord, You are mighty and faithful,” he said. The people cheered with joy, knowing that God had protected them and led them to victory. From that day on, they remembered an important lesson: When we trust God and obey Him, He can do amazing things — even things that seem impossible.
