Peter was staying in the seaside town of Joppa. One sunny afternoon, he climbed up to the rooftop to pray. The warm breeze blew softly as Peter knelt quietly and spoke to God. After a while, Peter became very hungry. While food was being prepared downstairs, something amazing happened. Suddenly, Peter saw a vision from heaven! The sky opened wide, and a huge sheet came floating down from the clouds. The sheet was tied at all four corners, and inside were many kinds of animals, birds, and creatures. Peter stared in surprise. Then he heard a voice say, “Peter, get up. Kill and eat.” But Peter quickly answered, “No, Lord! I have never eaten anything unclean.” Again the voice spoke from heaven. “Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.” This happened three times. Then the great sheet was lifted back into heaven. Peter sat quietly, wondering what the vision meant. Just then, some men arrived at the house. They had been sent by a Roman soldier named Cornelius. Cornelius loved God and prayed faithfully, even though he was not Jewish. The Holy Spirit spoke gently to Peter. “Go with these men. I have sent them.” So Peter traveled with them to Cornelius’s home. When Peter arrived, he saw many people gathered there. Cornelius welcomed him warmly. Peter looked around the room and finally understood the meaning of the vision. God was showing him that His love was not only for one group of people. God loved everyone — people from every nation, every language, and every place. Peter smiled and said, “Now I truly understand that God does not show favoritism. He welcomes all who love Him.” Then Peter told everyone about Jesus — how He healed the sick, loved the poor, died on the cross, and rose again. As the people listened with open hearts, something wonderful happened. The Holy Spirit came upon them, just as He had come upon Jesus’ disciples before. Everyone was amazed! Peter joyfully realized that God’s family was growing bigger and bigger. From that day on, Peter understood that the good news of Jesus was meant for the whole world. No one was forgotten. No one was left out. God’s love was for everyone. And it still is today. Moral / Life Lesson God loves all people equally.
